Well I was stroking my Chino (Cappichino) and I when i stroked a part of her back she squealed. (I overreacted at first because I screamed and nearly dropped him.) But then I carefully scooped her up and put her back in the cage.

Then the next day, I picked Chino up and for a while she was good, until she squealed again. She squirmed a lot after that and kept squealing. I put her back in the cage and she was running all over the place being scared by every sound. So after, I carefully picked her up. Nothing happened. Then I stroked her, trying to see what was wrong. She squealed when I touched a certain part of her back. I honestly don't know what's wrong with her. I don't know if I'm able to pick her up anymore, because the squealing scares me a lot. One of my friends said she probably just bumped something and she'll be fine, but I need some advice?

  1. I think that in a way your friend is right. Maybe it got hurt on that part of its back. In time, it should get better. Wait a few days until you do your regular routine with her. If she keeps doing that, you should try seeing a small animal vet.

Or if that is not the case, it may be something she heard while you were sleeping, such as a loud car horn. It could be paranoid by something you did to it by accident.

You should try feeding her fresh foods by hand (but not to much) to calm her down.

She could be doing this due to stress as well.

Hope your hamster feels better! And good luck!

  2. i dont know, but maybe she got bit. do you have any other hamsters? if nott maybe she got cut on her wheel or somthing? do you see anything? good luck!

  3. do you have a tall cage?? if you have one of those ones with like three stories, she may have fallen on and hurt her back. check with a vet.

  4. i have a gerbil and it does the same thing when i gently touch his sides. it means that they are a little annoyed and scared, but should be fine. just handle him carefully, and try not to touch that part of his back, or else you'll lose his trust. he was scared after that, thats why he kept runnin around his cage. hope i helped!

  5. maybe there is something wrong with her back.

ask your mom or dad and a vet
