Yet, he seems healthy. What are the consequences of not bringing him to the vet? NO, I WILL NOT BRING HIM TO THE VET. We can't afford it. My father isn't Bill Gates. I love my hamster though. :) And don't tell me that I have to give it away because "we're cruel." And I can't get a job yet. I will keep the hamster. I just want to know what the consequences are.

  1. she should be ok umm..here's a web site i recommend you o go to http://www.hamster-club.com/ it should help

  2. it shouldn't be much. As long as it's not bleeding. If it is, just get a damp tissue and dap it if you can. If it's been a couple of days, and ur hamster seems fine. Doesn't scratch at it or doesn't seem to be irrated... it should be fine! Just keep a look on it. Hamsters nails usully grow back.

    Hope i helped

  3. Most hamsters will be fine if they lose a nail. It may grow back, it may not. If it's bleeding, dap a little bit of cornstarch or white flour on the area to stop the bleeding. Keep an eye on to make sure it heals properly, stays clean and doesn't get infected, and he should be just fine. Don't put any ointments on it, as they can affect his health in other ways.

Edit: I would avoid using an antiseptic initially, as this will only hurt your hamster (most antiseptics sting or burn) and make him agitated. Hamsters are neat animals and will keep their injuries very clean. Only use antiseptic if the area looks unclean.

  4. A torn nail probably does not need a vet.  Antiseptic might be useful to prevent infection.  An infection would probably need to be treated by antibiotics prescribed by a vet.

For the record, while vets do cost money, you don't need to be Bill Gates to afford them.  Even if you don't want to hear it, it's really not fair to get a pet you can't afford to get medical care for should the pet need it.
