Ive had thoughts of trying what human food I can give him, and so far he likes vegetable soup. I have a feeling that popcorn will not work, and I want to see what He will do with an orange. He already eats dried up and salted banana's so I was wondering if I could give him just normal not dried up and not salted banana's? Please help because I just got him like less than a month ago and I don't want him to die so soon!

  6. well he should have a diet of bagged seeds, nuts, etc. from the pet store. I mix half and half with a block diet because blocks are good for teeth and have solid nutrition and he cant pick and choose what he wants and doesn't want to eat so he gets complete nutrition. you shouldn't give to many fruits or veggies cus it can give him diarrhea. absolutely no lettuce. and make sure you clean out any food that can spoil after about a day. don't give him salted processed food. he cant handle like we can. a little cheese is fine, my hamsters favorite is provolone. his favorite fruits and veggies are broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, grapes. always give more veggies than fruits, there more nutritious and less likely to cause diarrhea. you can also try dry oatmeal, unsalted, raw almonds, brazil nuts, peanuts (but not to many there fatty) most nuts are fine. i wouldn't give soup, hamster aren't swimmers he could drown. ive heard several stories of people giving hamsters bowls of water and they drowned so i would be careful. but overall your hamsters staple should be a seed diet mixed with a block diet from the pet store. i put my favorite foods links at the bottom.

  7. NO ORANGES!!!  Way too much citric acid, it will hurt his tummy!  There is a lot of different foods that are safe for hamsters:

    cucumbers

    cabbage

    lettuce

    apples

    sunflower seeds (unsalted)

    peanuts, walnuts, almonds (all plain)

    raisins

    carrots....ours loves the shredded kind!

They also love chewing on alfalfa hay; so if you have some bedding made of that, he will LOVE it! It's also really good for his diet.

  8. buy him hamster food try that maybe he likes  i have a hamster and he  eats super premium hamster and gerbil blend with flax seed its nutrition it has different types of vegetables

  9. wow, yea your right you can definitely not feed the hamster popcorn. Hamsters need balanced diets. I would get normal hamsters food from the pet store. Hamsters will eat anything so you have to be careful about what is in their reach. As far as human food, vegetable soup is probably not a good idea cause of the salt is has in it. Vegetable Greens are good and things like carrots. Fruit is not good to give to hamster too much because it has more natural sugar. Which can cause diarrhea and even diabetes. Hope I helped! : )

  10. Hamsters are omnivorous, which means they eat both vegetables and meat. Their natural foods include grains, seeds, vegetables, and insects, and they will like corn, oats, or wheat mixed with dry dog food. Premixed hamster food from a pet store has complete nutrition,  but some hamsters won't eat it.

Their favourite foods are foods native to their dry habitat, like seeds. For protein and variety, they will eat some small insects.

They like vegetables, but be moderate in how much you feed them. The key word for the hamster diet is *variety*. It keeps them healthy.

But don't feed your hamster chocolates and other sweet things.

Either feed the hamster at the same time each day or  leave a constant food supply. Hamsters will not overeat but will often store food in their cheek pouches and put it in a hiding place to eat later. Remove food that is no longer fresh each day, and clean out the "hidden" food once a week. Put food in heavy ceramic or plastic food dishes (so they won't tip over) and clean them weekly.

Hamsters need to have fresh water constantly available. The best sort of container is a drip bottle, which can be attached to the side of the cage. A bottle with a wide neck and metal top will be easy to clean every other day. The hamster will quickly learn how to sip from it.
