1. Hamsters are evil. Good luck.

Try only holding her at night. Hamsters are nocturnal.

  2. With my 1st hamster I purchased cheap gardening gloves (the leatherish ones), and then held her when she wasn't sleeping or eating. Only hold her a few inches off the ground of the cage so if she won't get hurt if she decides to jump.

With gloves she can get used to being held, and you don't get bitten. Also you could use a teacup to get her out of the cage and into your gloved hand without squeezing her.

  3. Theres not much you can do hamsters can be mean maybe next time you get a hampster hold it before you buy it

  4. My hamster is the EXACT same way!!!! He usually gives in when I give him a Milk-Bone. Those ARE ok for hamsters to eat for all you people who don't think so. They keep the hamsters teeth worn down and he LOVES them!!!! I also make sure my hands are washed so I don't smell of food to make my finger even more appetizing. But I think that you need to give your hamster some space because you just got it. She is probebly scared of all the new smells, cage, and might be a little shaken from the trip home. BUT.... you can also give hamsters stuff like celery, carrots, a little bit of bread, Cherrios, (My hamsters like the strawberry yougurt-burst ones), also you can give them the stuff off the link below.

    Hope I helped!!!!!

  5. When you get your hamster, you should not touch them for up to one to two weeks. Let them acclimate themselves to their new environment. The most you should do is either touch her back gently or give her a treat through the bars.

You shouldn't take her out of her cage yet.

About treats.. a good treat to give are sunflower seeds. You can find most of these in regular hamster food bags. My hamster, Mocha, I get her Fiesta food, I pick out the sunflower seeds and feed them to her as treats.

  6. Allow your hamster to sit in its cage for a few hours when you first bring it home. Then place a treat in your hand. Keep doing this until your hamster comes up and accepts it. When they accept it several times they will eventually climb on to eat it. Slowly and while they are completely focused on the food, lift them in to the air and lay them on your lap with a good hold still on them and stroke their fur. Then place them gently in the cage. This creates a trust bond.

After you and your hamster have mastered this, place a treat over their head and make them come and get it. Every time say "stand" and eventually your hamster will stand when you say stand and there is no treat. Remember to give them a reward afterwards. You can do this with other tricks like "paw" only putting the treat in front of them so that they have to reach out and get it. You can do it with "come" or "stay" and basically any trick. This teaches them about you and you about them also creating a stronger trust between you as well as learning some new tricks.

    Tips-

-Remember to speak to your hamster and soothe them with your voice.

-There is a difference between taming and training. Taming is creating a bond, communicating and teaching each other. This will be harder then training for the hamster and you, so go more easy on them then you normally would while training.

-If you develop a strong bond with your hamster (by giving it lots of love and attention) it will be easier for you to figure out what it is trying to tell you.

-Hamsters live for attention! also sometimes they can be very aggresive so treat them as your own child.I have a hamster to your not too forget about your hamster.

-Remember don't get mad at your hamster or don't yell at he/she because it will scare them and they will always be afraid of you and you don't want that too happen.

    hope the information helped(:

    good luck with your hamster

  7. let her get used to the new environment an then gradually let her get to recognize you and then you should be able to pick her up

  8. It takes a long time to form a good hamster relationship. Try to put your hand in her cage, ruffle the bedding, make your smell known. Carry a tissue in your pocket for a day and put it in her cage. Let her get used to you. Never pick her up, let her walk into your hand. Don't put in on the opposite side of the cage, because, no matter how persistant you are, she may not ever come. Let her walk into your hand, and leave it in the cage. When you take her out, let her explore you. This will take a while, but she will slowely grow to trust you more and more. Eventually she will come to the side of the cage when you walk into the room.

    Good Luck!
