  1. Maybe being a Hamster he needs a bit more stuff to play with.  Do you think he could be scared?

  2. He may be taking and stashing the food. My hammy carries his food in his pouches and stores it. its so darn cute. If he's sleeping more mabey hes depressed get him some toys, spoil him, treat him like your best friend ever :)

  3. my hamster does that too. but she is like 5 months. but hamsters are nocturnal remember that. maybe she is still adjusting to her new enviornment. my hamster just likes to sleep all day. hamsters are up and about when they are alone sometimes when they arnet scared. just give it more time and give it your trust. talk to it softly so it wont be lonley give it your scent i promise it will get better:)

  4. Yes.  More than likely, the hamster will just shove the food in its pouch and go back to sleep.  I'm not too sure what type of hamster you have, but the "breed" I had was described as being "obsessed with food", so it would be typical for it to even wake up when it hears you preparing to feed it.

    Don't worry about it =]

  5. The hamster is new to the place and is yet to get used to his environment. Hence the hamster hides in his home most of the time since he is scared to come out. My hamsters used to do the same thing for about two weeks when they were new. I used to give them food through the cage and they would stuff in their cheek pouches and take it to their nest. It is completely normal behavior.

He is not sleeping more. Hamsters sleep all through the day and are active only at night. He is most probably scared to come out and hence hides in his nest most of the time you are around. Try keeping the house quiet and dark for half an hour and tip toe to his cage - you will find him wide awake and moving around the cage.

Be patient with him, try to hang around the cage often and talk softly to him so that he would get used to your scent and sound. Hamsters have weak vision and rely mainly on scent and sound so once he starts trusting your scent and voice, he would definitely come out of his nest more often.

  6. Yes.

Hamsters create nest situations where they feel safe and sleep. They take food and put it in their cheeks and put it into their 'house' or nest area.

And they sleep for about twenty hours or so a day, during the day mainly.

Every behaviour you're telling us is perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.
