  1. I think they only do this for the warmth of their body-heat combined when they bunch up 2gether when ever they are tired.

  2. What kind of hamster is it? Syrians are solitary, but when they're young they will do this. Campbell's dwarf hamsters, though, do well in social groups.

  3. Syrian Hamsters are solitary. They are often kept together at petstores  only because they are young and their instincts haven't fully kicked in yet. When they reach about 6 weeks of age they will start to show aggression to one another. Pet stores don't have to worry about this though because the hamsters will be sold before they are old enough to show any sign of aggression to on another.

If you saw the smaller, dwarf species of hamster sleeping together, that is fine. http://homepage.mac.com/studogvetmed/har... Dwarf hamsters are social animals and need to be kept in groups of 2 or more of the same gender. They sleep together to keep warm. It is also a survival skill that they wouls use out in the wild. Little fights can happen sometimes amongst dwarf hamsters, but it is just usually to test who is the most dominant hamster.

    Good question =-D

  4. They are rodents and will band together if given the chance, they also do it for warmth, and as a defence

  5. umm dwarves are SOCIAL not solitary =]

  6. I have a dwarf hamster!!!! Aren't they awesome!!!!??? Anyway, they do tthis as a method of survivals, to keep warm and they feel they are probly safer from "predators".LOL! They may also all just like they sleping area, so they all cram in to get a spot. Dwaf hamsters are not as solitary, as long as they are kept with litter mates, they should like each other... but smaller fights still can happen.
