  1. do you have a wheel for them?

  2. as long as they eat and drink, i think theyre fine. one of my hamsters went through that phase, and now shes more active than the others.

another hamster i had was like that, but she wasnt eating or drinking [you know what happnd to her].

  3. Most syrians prefer sleep to being very active.  If you want more active hamsters dwarfs are the way to go, Robos are the most active and are the smallest.  Your syrians probably play most at night because hamsters are nocturnal. If your worry about them being fat just give them less sunflower seeds because sunflower seeds are very fattening.

I would love to see pictures, I'm a hamster fan too!!

  4. hamsters aren't very active critters.  they prefer to be left alone.  I would recomend putting some thing in their cage to hide in such as a tunnel, a soup can, or something else that's small.

  5. Do u have a wheel u maybe would need two wheel cause when u don't then they will fight and u would need a big wheel but some hamster r never active just like my 2 hamster muffy and fluffy but they would be active most the time so yea maybe they don't want to be active but they will soon i think is better not to be cause by hamster dixie JR always making noise running everyday always active

  6. They might not be that active because they are old, I have a Syrian that is a year and a couple months old, and she just started moving slower and eating less. However, this might not be the case for you.

It might just be the case that they are overweight and need some exercise, and better feeding.

The first thing I would do is to take the fattier items in the seed mix you give them, out. Like sunflower seeds and peanuts. I would suggest, if you are feeding them that seed mix, switch to lab blocks as soon as you can. They are much more nutritional for you hamster.

The second thing I would do is make sure he has a wheel. This shouldn't be the main source of exercise your hamsters will get. Just make sure they have access to one.

Then I would let them run around, every day, outside of their cage. Unfortunately, hamsters don't just sit inside four walls the whole time you own them. Let them run around and stretch their legs. You can 'hamster proof' your room by just making sure it's pretty clean and there aren't any batteries, pins/needles, or anything other thing that would obviously hurt your hamster if it stepped or chewed on it. I let mine run around in my bedroom. All I do is make sure all my stuff is off the carpet floor, and I let her run. There is one dresser which I don't let her go under, because the opening's to small for me to get my arm all the way back, and I can't really see under it, so I simply put my hand in the way and say 'no' when she tries to go under there. Otherwise, I just let her go. You should do this with your hamsters all the time. It is the best way to exercise them.

But then, they can get exercise in their cage as well. If you have two hamsters in one cage, (which is not a good idea...) then at least it has to be a pretty big cage. There should be plenty of room for climbing materials, etc. They sell little houses and other toys at petstores that you can build up into little towers. There are fancy cages that you can hook a bunch of tubes up to. You can throw in lots of toilet paper rolls and/or stack them. Empty Kleenex boxes work extremely well too.

I would suggest getting wood chews from the petstore as well. You can build up those chewable things as well.

Then, the last thing I can suggest is to hide their food. If there is an area in the cage that the hamsters don't visit very often, put some food up there. Hide it in the toilet paper rolls. Put it at the very top of a tunnel, place it under something like a pile of Kleenex. You get the idea. Get creative, and get the hamsters to work for their food. That way they get their bodies and minds exercised.

    I hope all this helped!

    Good Luck!

  8. Put a wheel in their cage and put them in a ball alot and get some tubes for your cage.
