  1. Try buying a chewing stick, its their way to keep their teeth trimmed or he's trying to get out. If you really want to keep him you can buy a plastic cage that has all the wholes on the top so he wouldn't be able to bite the sides or anything.

  2. she could want a cage mate if you only have her. i think she has the hamster blues and needs a friend a lot of cases show where the owner has showered their pet with love and attention and still the pet didnt have a cage mate to talk to. i think that is what she needs. all pets need companions or they die of loneliness and boredom. and dont take her back just give her a companion and see if she stops

  3. Hi, i know how you feel, i used to have a hamster like that, except she used to try and chew the actual cage, not the bars. She used to chew everything...like the wheel, bowl etc she wouldnt use wooden chew toys, or anything like that...also it was a rotastak cage and cost alot of money! i wasnt very happy about it. I have a hamster now and she just gnaws on her bars at night...not in the day!..grrr. All hamster gnaw some more than others, her teeth may have got too long thats why your hamster gnaws alot. Just wait awhile and she might calm down and wont gnaw as much.

  4. You can't make her stop.

If she's out a lot, handled a lot, and has other things to chew, there's nothing else you can do to prevent this behaviour, apart from change the cage to an all-tank based thing.

And don't take her back; what's your problem? She can't help it, she doesn't deserve to be returned. And she doesn't know it bugs you. She's a HAMSTER, not a person. Just deal with it.

  5. hamsters just like to chew on

    the bars of the cage

(if she is in your room

    take her out at night

and put her in the living room)

  6. Normally hamsters chew on cage bars only when they are bored or not attended to. But in your case, your hamster has everything - she seems to be played with daily and has enough chew toys for herself. I would suggest, try dog biscuits (sugar free), they have a high success rate in distracting hamsters from cage bars to themselves to chew on, however if that does not work out and your hamster seems to have an "obssessive chewing on cage bars" attitude, I would suggest you shift her to a bin cage (inexpensive and can be made at home) or an aquarium glass tank since obssessive chewing is not good for the hamster's teeth at all.

  7. i had the same probablem the older they get they will stop

  8. Have you tried those chewing things for hamsters? They're like tiny wooden pieces that hamster's can chew on.

  9. Every Hammy i know and have owned has chewed on the bars!! its just a hammy thing. don't return her, there are too many un wanted pets out there just from peoples stupidity!! just leave her to it. or if she is your room at night when you want to go bed just put her in another room. ALAS problem solved!!!!

  10. buy her the apple wood twigs, because hamsters LOVE the things. or get an aquarium so there are no bars to chew. as for the chipped tooth, try putting milk in her bottle instead of water to strengthen them.

  11. lock it up in hard steel bars and put it against a window against a dog and maybe she'll stop.

  12. Don't take her back, if she's in your room then move her out of it to somewhere you can't hear her. Alternatively you can get an aquarium tank as a new cage, she can't chew on the bars in them because there ain't any bars. Chewing on bars is usually a sign of boredom or stress. She may be lonely if she's the only hamster, maybe consider getting her a friend. If she started 2 days ago then something may have caused it. Think back and see if you can think of anything that may have stressed, startled, worried, scared, changed etc that may have caused this change in behaviour. Other than that, I'm afraid I can't help. Hope things turn out alright. Good luck.

  13. give her a wood toy to chew on

or nuts that she can crack open

shes trying to gnaw her teeth down like beavers do

    she needs something harder

try walnuts or a hard nut and a piece of cleaned pet store non colored wood

  14. don't get give her back to the pet shop just get wooden gnaw toy that Will stop him/her
