My hd-DVD player will play regular DVD ,but not HD-DVD why?

  1. Samsung has many "HD" DVD player models, but just because they upconvert or have an HDMI output does not make them TRUE HD DVD players.

    Make sure your player has the HD DVD Logo.

    If it does, check if you need a firmware upgrade from the manufacturer.


  2. It would help if you would give us the make and model of the DVD player.

  3. Are you positive that you are using a Toshiba or Venturer HD DVD player, and not an upconverting/upscaling player?

    If the brand is anything other than Toshiba, Venturer, or LG (because of the Dual player Super Blu) than you do not have an HD DVD player, only one that will take your DVD's and expand them or upconvert them to near HD quality. Those are ones that say HDTV compatible on the box.
