My heat pump heats even when set to cooling any thoughts?

You need to connect the orange wire in the thermostat and in the condenser for the reversing valve to go into cool mode and not heat.

Could be the reversing valve is not seating properly and bleeding by.

If your able feel all the refrigerant lines with your hand, it will give you a quick check.At the compressor and at the air handler. That is one the first things that I check on a heat pump when the compressor seems to be running o.k. and the charge is o.k.

Is the freon level low and you're just getting a recycling of the warm room air?  or... is your thermostat defective or set on aux. heat?
