My hermit crabs are missing these poky things on the bottom of their legs? Idk why.

I got two hermit crabs today. And when I was holding them I noticed they were missing those little poky gripping things on the bottom of their legs. Idk if anyone else has noticed these little things before. But anyways theyre not on my new ones. Did the store cut them off or what? But my other one that i have had does have th gripper poky things.

sometimes crabs will get in shell fights and lose some of there limbs or part of them. other times the "poky grippy  things break off when some1 trys to pull the poor crab off of something they wear hanging on2 quite tightly. these usually grow back when they molt.

i had hermit crabs... make sure that they all have a right size of shell cuz if they dont then they'll kill eachother!!

I think you are thinking of those little black things on the end.

I don't know what they are but i think of them as fingernail. They will just grow back no need to worry =P

I think they aid in climbing but they seem to do just fine without them

its not rare for crabs to be in bad form when they arrive at a pet store and there could be various reasons that they are missing the little pinchers or tips...  here are some sites to help you properly care for your new pets!

i have noticed that the pet stores do not take care of the hermit crabs as much as anything else i was going to get 2 at petco and the guy couldent see any of them so he just ripped thew all of the hermit carbs stuff and dug under the sand and he found one but it look like it was going to die in like 5 min. so i didnt get one. so i went to petsmart and they had a lot but there was A DEAD HERMIT CRAB LAYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CAGE!!! so i got the goodest looking two!
