Question:

My hermit crabs aren't changing their shells!?

I have had them (2) for 8 months, the biggest one's claw's center has turned more purple, the smaller one's legs have turned more reddish, but that's it. They're not changing. I can make them come out a lot enough to look at the spongy part, but they never come out as far as I know. I have several shells lying in their "crabitat" and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks!

  1. nothings wrong when the want to change they will

  2. they are probably getting tired, or, well, do they mate? maybe they are, er, about to do that. my lizards are all freakish when a new season is starting...

  3. They may like the shell they are currently in and do not wish to change. Just make sure the extra shells you have in the tank are all different sizes. Some may like bigger shells while some may like tight and small shells.
