My high school graduation gift from my parents will be a trip to Paris...?

Im going to be a sophomore next year..and 2 of my friends are coming also. We're sharing the cost.. do you think we can get enough money by then? if so how should we split up the costs?

I suggest that each person pays their own expenses. You may think splitting the costs is a good idea. But think about this, what if one friend is a big shopoholic and likes to eat a lot. Do you want to pay their additional costs as well?

Airline you could all purchase at the same time so that would be the same cost and for accomodation, depending on where you stay, you could split the cost. (In a hostel, you can pay for yourself; in a hotel, you'd have to pay as a group)

If it's a gift from your parents...why do you need to save money? Just checking..but you should be able to do so. I saved enough to go on my first trip to Europe in one year.

Plan and budget ahead and you should be fine. Check with your school if there are any language scholarships or any fundraising opportunities.

I'm assuming that means they're paying for the actual airfare, and that you just have to cover the rest? Great gift. I don't know how many hours you work per week- I'm guessing you have an after school job, since you speak of saving money. But I'd have to assume that if you only need to pay for lodging, food, and of course visiting the sights and so forth, two years is enough to save for that. Three years, actually, since you still have your sophomore, junior, and senior years to go. Oh, if you do any traveling by train, be sure to look into the youth discount. And don't forget that places such as Versailles, Fontainebleau, and Chantilly are all easily reached by train, as far as day trips are concerned. Have a great time when you go!

If you're JUST going to Paris, of course all you would need to pay for is food and hotels, but I wouldn't split the cost of that with anyone except for the rooms if you decide to share. Paris is touristy and expensive, but they speak English and you can get by. There's a lot to see, but you could really see it all in a few days. Except the Louvre...you couldn't see that whole place in a month probably; it's HUGE. If you're a sophomore, I think you can definitely save up money for the trip- but that all depends on how long you are staying in Paris and if you are traveling to other cities or not.
