The fan on the outside unit siezed.

Replaced fan motor about 3 weeks ago. It had a dual start capacitor before the change, but the motor came with new capacitor so used that one on the motor and used the comprressor half of the dual capacitor for the compressor.

Worked fine, then yesterday the unit stopped cooling. I turned it off and waited a day then turned it on and it cooled for 15 minutes then stopped working again. Would blow non-hot air out of the condensor unit outside and room temperature air out of the vents in the house. Then I replaced the dual start capacitor to drive both the motor and compressor as it was before the motor siezed up. Fired it back up and it did the same thing....Cool the house for a short period of time then stop cooling.

HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

  1. If the fan motor was replaced 3 weeks ago,how long was the compressor running without the aid of the fan before it was replaced.Sounds to me like the compressor could be cycling on it's internal overload because it is now weak.As far as the motor is concerned, the motor could be 1075 rpm and the blade for 825 rpm or vise versa.Check that compressor overload to see if its opening.

Line voltage between C&R or C&S on the compressor if she's open and no voltage showing between C&R or C&S if she's closed

Be very carefull not to short out the test leads when checking as that is high votage. You'll get bloody when your hand jerks back after the arc, so be carefull.Just shut the power off and

ohm it out with an ohm meter as decribed above.

Infinity if she's open and less than 10 ohms if she's closed.

You have to take off the cover on the compressor to expose the terminals.Do that and remove the wires(label them to not forget where they go back)when she stops pumping and not cooing and ohm out the terminals, top one is common, left one is start, and right one is run on most compressors.
