  1. Outside air temperature definately affects your discharge air temp. When its around 100 outside here in Texas my house is at about 78 degrees. As the sun goes down so does my inside temp. Have a tech put a set of guages on your unit and check the charge so its correct. Also something you can do yourself is shut off the thermostat in your home, turn off the disconnect lever outside on your unit. Take a garden hose and wash the outside coil around your ac unit from the inside out. You need to get your hand down inside the unit to wash it. Remove any leaves etc. from around the coil. Make sure the power is off. You will have to remove the fan cover.

  2. Mine won't cool either on really hot days, especially if the unit has been off for the day. What I do is close the curtains to block out as much sun light as I can, lock the doors and windows and take out the air Filter for a while, and vacuum the cold air return off. and don't run in and out of the door during the late afternoon-evening, That's the best you can do for hot days, I wouldn't go buy a new unit unless you can really afford it, The other best option is, Get out of the house and hang out with somebody else and use thier air and turn yous off, the longer it is off the more money you save,Buy some potatoe salad and visit a friend right around supper time.

  3. Measure your split, the difference between what's coming out of your vents and what's going into the filter. If it's between 15 to 20 degrees, there ain't nothing wrong with it.

Who added the refrigerant?Maybe she's overcharged or still undercharged.Where was the leak?Maybe it's a biggon.

There could be many other different things wrong.

  4. Is this central air?

You probably need a repair man.  Have you changed the filter lately?

Is the air intake clear?  When was the last time your furnace/ac had a check up?

  5. What you need to do is put some more Freon, take a pressure gauge and put the gauge in the Central AC unit, once you refill the Freon check the gauge, then keep the ac on overnight go back out next morning and if the pressure  goes down that means you have a leak.

  6. How old is the unit?  Double paned windows?  Insulation in the house walls and attic?  Lots of variables to consider.  Put a thermometer close to the vent and get an accurate reading.  You might need to replace the unit or do upgrades on the house.
