I have the exact same problem.  But have not figured out an answer yet.  Very annoying!

Its gone.  You are stuck with the new page with the big ad in the middle, and having to click four times to get email.

Also if you have multiple users on the say PC you will find you have to use Firefox because the new page/email does not work with IE (and Yahoo Radio does not work with Firefox).
