My horse always trys to get the shanks off my western bit, how can I stop this?

  1. What exactly is he doing?  Does he toss his head, rub the bit on things?  Wahtever it is, if he is fussing about the bit and his mouth you will want to look at the bit.  Is it the the right size, not to small or to big. He may be overbitted.  Longer shanks have more leverage, hence more poll pressure.

    Also have your vet check his mouth for any teeth that may be causing him some discomfort.
