  1. There are a variety of 'tail wraps" that protect a horses tail from uv rays and from drying out. You can find them at most tack stores for under $20.

Also washing and conditioning your horse's tail will help as well.

Last putting transmission fluid, bacon grease, and olive oil have been known to help tail growth too.

  2. you should have sprayed the matt with WD-40 and kept working at it

  3. Well, first off. Don't ever resort to cutting a horses tail! It takes 3-5 years for a horses tail to grow to full length and they're so gorgeous. You poor girl, I bet it was so painful to cut off? What you could've done instead was  soak (and I mean it should be dripping) the matted part in something like Cowboy Magic and just work with it. By starting at the bottom of the mat, take a brush and slowly and patiently work it out. Keeping the tail plaited will not make it grow faster, but it will help prevent any breaking of hairs and will create a nice full tail. There are special products that you can buy that will help manage your horses tail. I can't remember the brand name, but I will find it and get back to you on it! I know it works because my friend has a horse named Chip who had rain rot near the top of his tail so he would itch it and the hairs would break. Hope this helps, and happy growing :)

  4. i use mane tail groom it really works

  5. haha next time you get a mat just cut the maat itself out not the whole tail...well anyways i dont think you can make the tail grow longer just keep washing it and stuff like that it probably wont get back to medium until witer it should be back in 10 months or less

  6. next time u get a huge knot take a pocket knife and cut through the center of  it. I had a horse with a DREADLOCK down the middle of his tail, used the knife and a brush witha lil cowboy magic and show sheen, it  out in 10 minuites. To make it grow faster, use somthing from walmart called Africas Best. it works AMAZING!!!!! and its CHEAP!   GOOD LUCK!

  7. I don't have alto of experience with matts, but you should have tried to comb it as soon as soon as you saw it. Then you would've massaged dangler into the spot directly. But since it got to the point where you had to cut it. Treat it with moisturizer so it doesn't get dry, because it usually has the oil from the hair. Also, you can get vitamins and oils that will make the the hair grown faster. Check your local tack shop, someone with knowledge, or a vet to access it. Hope I helped.

  8. i have heard that plaiting horses tails helps them grow faster, this could be a myth, not sure.

  9. Comb/brush it daily or as much as possible. Washing it more often would also help.

  10. There's not really anything to make it grow faster. It was probably matted from mud during the winter or spring. Next winter try putting the tail in a tail bag to keep it out of the mud.

  11. I don't know of any way to make your horse's tail grow faster. but, using a good conditioner now will help prevent breakage while it's growing out and once you get it to the length you'd like to keep it. Someone already mentioned using WD-40.  Don't laugh!  It works wonders!!!  I raise, train and sell horses. I always use WD-40 on the tough tangles.  Be sure to wash the mane or tail out thoroughly when you are finished.
