My horse has black marks on him, that have turned into open wounds?

He's a fleabitten grey, but he came out in black marks, and they've now turned into almost cuts. They're spread all over his body.

What is it? The horse he shares the field with has exactly the same thing.

Thanks =]

  1. That's definitely not an "unnecessary vet bill". That sounds like something really serious. Call out the vet.

  2. the same happened to my horse.  His name is Prince and he was scratching on the fence and trees which is probably what your horses have been doing.  They may have skin disorder. So take them to the vet for a checkup.

  3. Ring a vet and ask for advice, I know what you meen by vets bills, espec on a sunday evening, then get him out in the morning unless he says its urgent

  4. omg, get a vet out. Are you serious? Listen, it might be something contagious if both horses have it. Stop sitting in front of your computer, get up and call a vet. If you explain it to them they might not even come but at least a PROFESSIONAL is giving you advice. Seriously? You're messing around with full-out body sores.

    Come on.

  5. People who cannot afford veterinary attention should not have a horse.

    I wonder if both the horses have an allergy to something in the field?  Or if they are both suffering from ring-worm in which case it is vital that vet treatment is given.  It is highly contagious and if you so much as touch them or other horses they will get it too.  It can pass from horse to human and vice versa.

    You will be given a special wash for them and they will have to be kept isolated from others until the vet deems them free.

    Get that vet in soon.

  6. If you can't afford to call a vet out for this then you shouldn't have a horse.

    Even if you are "poor" then you can ask the vet if you can pay him in installments. No Vet worth his salt would not treat your horse just because you can't pay immediately. Anyway if the other horse has the same then the Vet's visit will be split between the 2 of you.

    Get the Vet NOW please.

  7. We cant see we dont know but why in heavens name hasnt a vet been called to treat it!
