  1. Best to call the vet for a check-up to be sure.

  2. Call a vet. But, it could just be the dust/sand. If he starts rolling/coughing harder, he might just have the slightest signs of colic. So keep an eye on him, but it's probably just age.

  3. First of all 16 is not old!! i have a 22 year old and he acts like hes 8. if they r well takin care of they're fine. ask the vet because snot is not normal in the mouth. that much sand may have caused respiratory problems. a dental may help but call the vet and see what he has to say. good luck!

  4. It mite b the amount of sand and dust thats getting 2 him alot or he mite have a cold u mite just need 2 get a check up at the vets.

  5. My vet bill looks like the gross national debt. But I never take chances with my animals. I had a horse coughing several years ago and the vet diagnosed it as bronchitis. WE gave him meds for several months, but the cough would not go away. We ended up having to put him down, which totally broke my heart. I have another horse that coughs now and the vet diagnosed him with COPD. Yes, horses can get it too. Have your vet check him out. It will give you piece of mind

  6. First, don't be so sure he will live a long time.  Lots of horses die at 16 -- I even had one die in my arms and she was 8.  Some are fine to ride lightly at 30, some have too many miles on them at 12...

If you love this horse, you'll get a vet out to take his temp, listen to his heart.  He might have the heaves... google it.

  7. Have his teeth checked . He may have food lodging . Make sure his mouth is clear of any food before you work him. If his teeth are ok , and this only seems to happen at drill, it may be the dust. Can the arena be watered down ahead of time? Also make sure his barn and corral aren't dusty. If this is a chronic condition, get your vet out. And your horse, if healthy can do drill for many more years, providing he's kept in shape and is in good health. I had one that retired at 26, even tho he still was gung ho when his arthritis wasn't bothering him! And I have 20 year olds that a local team still uses

  8. HMMMM-i think it could be dust and sand-his lungs might be just a bit more senstive so get you rvet over to check him out

    hope hes fine

  9. The horse is really old if its sixteen. He probably isn't in the best shape of his life. He'll probably be fine though

  10. Hello

sounds like your horse has a cold, dont ride him, put heaps of blankets on him and try to keep him in a well ventelated area, soon he will get better in about a week, if not call the vet for advise.
