My Arab has been so stubborn lately. Whenever I go down to his pasture to get him, he does not want to leave the other horses. He plants his feet in the ground and wont move no matter what I do! I turn him in circles, try walking him different directions, I've even taken down my buggy wip (not to hit him! Just to tap him on his flanks) but nothing seems to work! I've spent hours trying to get him out of the pasture. Once were on the other side of the fence he is completely fine, and isn't stubborn! It's just getting him out of his pasture. Ive thought about trying to seclude him and put him in a different pasture, but we board him and there's no other place to put him....

The last few times that I went to get him I just took my bridle down with me and rode him bareback and that actually worked.

Anyone have any other ideas so i dont always have to ride him bareback????????

you can get much information in this website, stay a minute in website and check anyone link at a time, you can aslo get your answer in Google Search in this website, which has helped me alot

  2. You need to do a lot of work with this horse. No, he will not just "out grow" his issues. It sounds like he is herd bound and you need to let him know that you are in control and what you say goes. I would put a rope halter on him so that you have a little more control over him and take a lunging whip and lunge line down with you next time you go to get him. I would put the halter on him and ask him to move forward with you. If he acts stubborn I would put the lunge line on him and start lunging him (at the lope or trot) for a few minutes then asking him to walk forward again. I would keep doing that until he walks calmly forward with you. He should soon realise that if he doesn't listen to you he will have to work and that it is just easier to listen to you the first time you ask him.

  3. Thats whay you get when you get an arabian they can be so stubborn

  4. You may not like my answer, but it's thoughtful. Since you board your horse he may not have the best relationship with you as you wish. A horse's first love is the person who  brings the food. So, mabe when you go to get your horse out of the pasture he thinks automatically that you are going to work him. Just like any other trainer. You may not have a lot of time to go there everyday and feed your horse but it would help if you could at least take 10 mins or so and not ride him once and a while, to pamper him. Walk him on lead, let him eat grass, do some T-touch, or feed him some sugar cubes or just spend a session grooming him. you might be surprised at the results.

  5. Obviously your horse thinks that work is OUTSIDE of that gate, so he is going to try and stay inside the gate as long as possible.

When you got on him bareback he realized he was going to have to work either way, so might as well get going.

What you should do, is bring your tack and bridle to the pasture and ride him in the pasture. do this for a few days. JUST riding inside the pasture. your horse will realize that work isn't ONLY out of the gate, and will be less of a struggle to get away from the other horses.

    Good Luck!
