  1. get pen. from places like Tractor Supply or buy a syringe of it from your vet.

I think udder balm works good, it's got antiseptic in it. Hard for them to keep a bandage on though, if they don't rip it off, the other horses will take it off for them. If it's a large gash you'll need a vet to come over, because you dont want a fly laying nasty maggots inside the flesh. yuck.

Also put some peroxide on it and blot that off. They also make a tape just for horses that is meant for legs..you need to change it every day or so though..also there is a powder for horses that stops the bleeding and helps minimize infection..forget the name though. Any farm store like tractor supply, quality farm and fleet, southern states, etc. will have things you need, and if you're confused just ask someone, most of them work there because they know what they are dealing with.

  2. Medical honey, or something like that is good for wounds but they need to be bandaged, but the best thing: Call a vet!!! Just to be sure.

  3. you can't buy penicillin without a prescription. You need to call a VET, NOW and get the horse some medical attention.

  4. Yes, you can buy penicillin and appropriate gauge syringes at your local feed supply store (TSC carries a wide variety of basic meds).  It's only about $6-10 for a big bottle.

How deep is the laceration?  If it's superficial, red kote, blue kote or wound stop should work (all available at the feed supply store as well).  You need to clean the area thoroughly with Betadine or an iodine tincture before you treat it.

Red kote (red scarlet oil) is a good one to use this time of year because it helps seal the injury and keep the flies out of it.  Make sure you reapply daily and check for any signs of lameness or infection.

If it is a deep, penetrating wound or appears to be in an area that would cause tendon or ligament damage, you may need to contact your farm vet.  You'll want to call him anyway to check what dosage and how long of a cycle you'll need to administer antibiotics.

  5. yeah betadine works good, I used it for my horse when she injured her hoof on something, and it healed quickly. Bathe the wound in salt water to wash out any dirt or such and then spray or apply the betadine to the wound. Do this once per day until the wound has scabbed over or healed. Hope this helped. Depends on how deep the cut is you may have to bandage it.

  6. you have a horse im so jealous i want a horse so bad i cant afford one though says my mom

  7. put bedadine on it which is a red spray you can by it at the chemist as it is used for humans but dont worry its great for all animals cuts and sores

good luck hopes he/she gets better :)
