My horse need confidence?

i just bought a 11 year old gelding that has no self confidence at all and is already very heard bound to my mares. How do I get him to have more confidence and to focus on me and not where the other horses are?

the more you work with him they better he'll get.

he needs to learn your just a good of a friend as the other horses.

think of it like the first day of school in a new town hes still trying to settle in and doesn't want to be removed from the herd seeing as hes not used to your place yet.

its taken us 4 months to get one of ours to cooperate and now hes the sweetest thing
