Question:

My horse seems unhappy with his snaffle bit and always has his mouth open.any ideas?

He recently got his mouth caught on his martingale which was scary.

  3. get it checked by a horse dentist or maby it mite be depressed. I don't know all 34 of my horses had never do that so so sorry!

  4. Check that he isn't getting his tongue over the bit,then try a nose-band.

  5. The snaffle is about the gentle-est bit there is so I don't think he'd be happy with any other bit either.  You could go bitless but I'm not such a big fan of bitless bridles and riding without a bit.  I'd recommend just getting a flash band to keep his mouth shut while he's riding... it's like the noseband and it attaches to the top of the noseband, but you put it in front of the bit and then tighten it just like you would the noseband.  Here's a picture: http://www.horsekeeping.com/tack/bridles...

  6. Have his mouth checked by horse dentist. A good person will look at your bit and see if it is correct for your horse. good luck
