Question:

My horse will act up if he is by his self?

when i am riding my horse he always acts up what can i do? when i am on the trail with my friends he is great but when i and i a ring he takes off nd bucks

  1. your horse needs a companion or another horse he gets along with. he just needs a buddy! horses have even been known to make friends with cats and dogs if they have no other animal companion.  


  2. Maybe he just doesn't like ring work, have you ever tried riding him the in arena with your friends?

Lunge him on a lunge line or in a round pen.  Do it consistently for 15 minutes each direction before you ride him in the arena.  Then, when you get on him, long-trot him (fast jog) non stop for 15 more minutes.  Don't allow him to break into a lope.  Long-trotting tires him out and also teaches him discipline.  Long-trotting is hard on your butt so be sure to post in the saddle, even western.  

    You should also join a 4-H horse group.  You can get valuable instruction and 4-H often offers free workshops.  Good luck!  Tracy
