  1. Firstly, always remember to adjust feeds and amounts gradually.

What height is he? Try this feed calculator from baileys it should help you:

He isn't doing much work so he won't need a lot. Just keep an eye on his weight and adjust his feeds accordingly. I would probably just feed it horse&pony nuts, cubes or mix. They all contain everything your horse will need just read the directions on the back. Red mills or baileys are good but there lots of brands available.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Well how long will you be riding him each session?  Is he an easy keeper (other words) does he maintain weight well or does he get skinny real easy?  If so you might need 14%, but I think you will need  12%.  I give my horse almost a full scoop once in the morning and at night.  It's best to split their meals. If he is a senior he might need senior feed.   Best bet is to ask your vet.  Make sure he eats enough hay in the winter, this will keep him warm.

  3. wat i feed my horses and i find wats realy good is breeder and formula 3 they have all the vitemins they need and calcium and since there alot of grass were you are and you feed your horse hay all i would give to him is one hard feed a day one scoop of each wean him into it first thow and mix it with some oaten and lucern chaff it keeps the wait on as well its a good supplament for young horses we use it also in our racing stables for all our breakers and trainer. leah ow and once your horse is used to it i would then up it to two scoops of each once a day dew in winter and in summer back to one

  4. He should get an all-purpose feed such as Omelene 100. There are plenty on the market to choose from. Prepackaged feeds are created by the manufactures to be complete feeds with the right balance of vitamins and minerals.

The bag of whatever feed you select will have feeding instructions such as X pounds of feed per Y pounds of body weight per day. There is usually a chart on the bag so that you can adjust the amount depending on the level of work. Forty minutes 4-5 times per week is not all that much work, so you'll probably go with the basic ration.

Remember to make any changes to his feed gradually.

  5. Nutrena Safe Choice, 14% protein (if I remember correctly) and I have never had a problem with it, like colicing. this gives them enough energy to do what youre asking of him, yet if he gets stall bound he wont go nuts. I used this feed on my endurance mare, it works really well.

  6. About 9 to 10 lbs of Alfalfa/Oat Cubes, twice a day ( it has vitamins and minerals added), and half a pound of COB (morning and night) will keep him in tip top shape . . .
