  1. Did your pilot light go out?  Check the bottom of the water heater for a little flame, it it's not there read the instruction on how to light it.

  2. We do not have crystal balls please give some information.

  3. You ask a for help and you didn't mention Gas or Electric, if gas check for the pilot light to be lit, if electric check for an open breaker, or you could have a bad element or two. The high limit could have also opened due to excessive water temperatures.

  4. All the former answers missed one thing.  If this is an electric unit that's 30 gal's. or more, it will have a reset button, (small red button), in the top of the upper thermostat.  Try pushing it in, if it makes a snapping sound when you push it, it had popped.  It's an overload, thermal sort of thing, though a power surge can make it pop.   And you really should consider trying to give enough information in your next question to allow folks to give intelligent answers.

  5. you can use cold water.

  6. Is it gas or electric?  If gas check the pilot light and relight it per the instructions on the front of the water heater.  If it is electric check you breaker panel for a tripped breaker.  An electric hot water heater uses 220/240 volts so there will be two breakers side by side and they should be connected together by a bar across  the two levers.  Check them by wiggling them back and forth.  If they have a little play of about 1/8 inch they may be tripped.  Turn then off and then back on.  This will reset them.  If they trip again immediately then you have an over load condition and you will need to call a plumber.
