  1. One week is too lang without at least a return phone call. Call evry day and leave a message and have your agent do the same - you'll get a return call.

On your living expenses, they'd probably tell you to put them on a credit card anyway and then send them the bill to reimburse you. So you may have to do it this way.

I'd also start getting my own estimates for the repairs and not depend on the adjuster, as they will lowball you and try to get away with the cheapest costs.

  2. Neither, it is way too early to hire a public adjuster or a lawyer. You get to give away 10% or 33% of your claim for not getting a return phone call.

Adjusters are very busy but that does not excuse them from not doing what they told you they would do.

The best course of action is to call the claims office and talk to the claims manager, don't let them pawn you off onto a claim spvsr, get the regional or office claim manager. Politely and calmly explain the situation. Don't scream and stay professional. The manager will get you a response in a hurry and light a fire under the adjuster rearend.

    Good Luck

  3. Keep bugging your agent, this is their time to shine.  Your agent is the one that should be looking into this for you.  You might ask your agent if you should hire a lawyer.  This will spur them to get their butts moving.  You do not need to hire a lawyer, your agent is who you need to deal with.

Good luck to you and I am sorry to hear you lost your house.

    EDIT-

I would say you shouldn't need either at any point in this.  Nationwide is a good company and generally does a good job on claims.  It could be that the adjuster you have is new or overwhelmed at the moment.  I would call the number you have for the adjuster, hit '0' and ask to speak to that person's supervisor.  If you get another voice mail, go to that person's supervisor until you get someone.  Once you speak with someone they will make this start happening for you.  Your agent should already be doing this and it sounds like she is.  Other than that I would say that as stressful as this can be, stick with it, it will get handled for you.

    Good luck!

  4. Have your agent keep trying to get through to the claims office. Some agents have draft authority, meaning, with the approval of the company, they can issue a check to you for emergency purposes & certainly you will need some money for additional living expense or to purchase a few needed items that were destroyed in the fire, clothes or personal items.  If the adjuster was already out, they have a pretty good idea of the damages & an idea of how long it will take to repair & get you back home.  Ask your agent if she can do an agency draft, it is much quicker than waiting for the post office to deliver a check & you can go pick it up.  Our agency does this all the time.

    Just a thought for you.

Hope it all works out well.

It is way too soon to hire a public adjuster or lawyer & if you do, neither your agent or your claims adjuster can speak to you anymore, they have to speak to the person you hire & you have to speak to them, this just adds another party to the mix & could slow things even more.
