Question:

My house has a large amount of spiders...?

I find at least one spider a day in my room alone, there's webs in the laundry room and don't even get me started about the garage! I don't know what to do, at first I would just scoop 'em up and toss them outside but there's so many now I've started squishing them! I feel really bad for killing them but I keep thinking if I don't they'll just keep having babies and babies and babies.

Are there spider repellants that DON'T kill them without harsh chemicals in them?

I think the reason I feel the most guilty is I'm a vegetarian, I won't wear anything made from animals, I don't even eat eggs, and now I'm squishing these poor little bugs? What should I do???

  1. I have that same problem! I find spiders all over the place daily but our differentce is i'm veg@n and i'll kill a spider! Spiders are scary and bite and i'm not risking that, veg@n or not!

  2. This is the way my family did it:

clean your house from top to bottom, corner to corner!

Get rid of all of the leftover food, and remember to clean out your garbage can very often. Spray some bug spray i guess. Keep dust away from your house. I know, it's such a pain. My mom and i spent a full day cleaning up every corner of the house.

  3. This is because you don't keep your house clean. And also there might be many insects in your house and also there is too much moisture in your house.Another reason is that they multiply even more faster when you kill them by chemical or physical process. Please don't get angry with my answer. Can I have a personal chat with you.You can fix the time.Do send me an email when you have fixed the time .My id is syedahsen@yahoo.com.And my name is Ashen.Do please tell your name and email id in the email which you will send to me.

  4. I would say deal with them esp. if they are in your home in any way that will keep them from within your home.

I got bit by a brown recluse - got very ill - lost a few weeks from work because of it.

I can tell you that I use non-harmful chemicals in cleaning (citrus based) and I don't have spiders in my home.  Could just be a coincidence - maybe it helps as the other person suggested.

The "Skin-So-Soft" works great for keeping mosquito's off of you - but as the other pointed out - not too sure how that works with spiders.  Since it is oil based - not too sure about spraying oil all over and the more than likely not to pretty results of the residue on your things.

I also as another person posted have the "ultra sonic" pest control.  Maybe that is why I don't have them inside.

It also could be I don't have the problem because of a combination of all that I do.

Get a can of "Raid".  Known to work - then find a combination that works best for you to keep them away.

  5. I would have to say get over it. I'm a vegetarian also and even if I wasn't I wouldn't consider a spider meat or an animal. I also don't think cruelty is an issue with creepy and crawly things. God will forgive you for making your home pest free and clean. Good luck with your problem maybe try a cat or ultra sonic.

  6. My concern would be if you get rid of the spiders what bugs are going to emerge...a spider isnt going to hang out anywhere where it isnt getting food (Spider food=other bugs)  so you get rid of the spiders...what kind of ickier creatures might show up?  Id leave the spiders (i mean its not like you have thousands of them all over the place everywhere you look, you just see one each day....id rather have ten spiders than 100 flies any day!  Besides spiders are much cleaner and more reserved and respectful of you're space  than the other wiggly things the feed on!

  7. Avon Skin-so-Soft will keep ants & mosquitos away, so maybe it will work on spiders too:)  Put some on paper towels and spread over the areas .......Also, spraying Listerine outside keeps bugs away, so maybe that'd work for spiders too.  And it's obviously non-toxic and smells good (if you get a minty one)

  8. I kill spiders, even outside cause I HATE them!!

But, I bought Ortho Home Defense and it has kept spiders out.  It is a chemical, but it works.  You spray it around the base of your house and the ground at the base.  We used it last year and again thisyear and so far, no spiders inside!  It lasts a whole year, too.  Try it!!

  9. I hate to break this news to you, but the spiders are in your house for a reason. Spiders eat meat (other bugs), so you have to eliminate these bugs first. Give your house a good cleaning. Check to see if any food in your pantry has gone bad like flour ets. Spray all your house plants with spray to kill any aphids. A soap spray should work.  Check around your foundation to make sure you don't have termites, spiders like to eat them and ants too. Remove all spider webs and shoe the spiders outside.

  10. Forget about the spiders, kill 'em. They multiply anyway. Don't feel bad. I roasted a colony of ants and I sleep pretty good at night !

  11. Well I love animal and I'm vegan. Everyone gets bugs in their house . Even the super clean houses. They have clever ways of coming inside. You just can keep on scooping them up and putting them outside. All bug sprays test on animals. Someone mentioned Avon  and they get ingredients from suppliers that test on animals.

  12. I know ants and some other bugs stay away from lemon and other citrus, but I don't know about spiders.

Don't feel guilty. You're saving enough animals by not eating and wearing them, it's okay to squish the ones that have invaded your house--they're uninvited guests, what else can you do?

I have the same problem though...and I know you feel guilty no matter how you try to tell yourself it's okay.
