My house smells like cigarette smoke?

My dad smokes and now our new house smells like smoke. To be honest i can't smell it myself since i've gotten so used to the smell, but my friends told me that it really smells.

Help how can i get rid of this smell? I can tell the odor is really bad since whenever my friends come over for lunch we end up eating outside in my backyard instead of inside?

  1. I experienced the exact same scenario with my dad so I know

exactly what you are going through. What you should do is, place

shallow bowls or cups all around the house in different places that

you fill some with vinegar and some with ammonia. It will remove

the odors that seem to stagnate. You can leave the ones filled with

the vinegar indefinitely, but the ammonia I would only leave overnight

though you can do whichever you choose. I know that this little hint

helped me, and I am sure it will help you too! Good Luck!

  2. get an air purifier, they get rid of bad smells, bionaire is a good make but are quite expensive, you can get cheaper ones if you search round.

  3. well to get it out of you cloths, i heard washing them with 1 part vodka and 2 parts water, but that only helps a lil. but to get rid of the whole house would involve getting one of those air-fresheners that go off on a timer...cant remember the name right now. just buy a few of them and place them around the house. that's what my mom and i did when she quit.

  4. It's true, you get used to it and your friends smell it really strong. But what I would do is spray some febreeze on the couches, curtains, carpets, beds pretty much anything fabric, and it will help with the smell, and tell your dad to smoke outside.

  5. White vinegar in bowls as another has already contributed.

  6. Use Febreze on cloth drapery, chairs & carpeting.  Open windows and air out. Wipe down hard surfaces with good cleaner.

  7. Put a lot of air fresheners in your house put them all over, buy a few bottles of febreeze, and wash the floors and walls with something that removes scent.

By the way it won't work unless your dad completely stops smoking. Even outside will make your house smell because the smoke will be in his clothes and smoke scent is one of those scents that with small exposure can make a lot of stuff smell.

  8. Asking your father to smoke outside won't fly, he pays the rent/mortgage.  The bowls of vinegar, ammonia help and are cheaper than an air purifier. Febreze helps for a bit.

Regular house cleaning including sprinkling baking soda on the carpet the night before vacuuming helps. Washing walls would help, but I doubt you are up for that.

You'll never get rid of the stink until the smoker is gone and the house is completely cleaned and freshly painted.  Cigarette smoke's tars adhere to surfaces; walls, lamps, etc.

How rude your friend's mentioned the smell.  These days there's no manners when it comes to being inconveninced by someone else's problem.  As long as society allows rudeness, you'll have to entertain your friends in an area they can't complain about.

  9. first ask your dad to smoke outside. second go to a rental place and get a ionizer hotels use them to get rid of odors in rooms
