Luckily I got the water heater replaced, which was very expensive and don't have $ to pay for a formal mold treatment which is very expensive. But every time I come home it smells really bad and I'm worried about getting sick from it. Spraying Lysol has been working very well though LOL and its starting to worry me that my house is going to rot!

HELP.

Please. Thank you!

  1. Pull up the carpet and pad and deal with whatever might be going on with the flooring under the pad.  Chances are the carpet and pad are now beyond salvation, and you can replace them as you have funds.   If this ever happens again, pull the carpet and pad ASAP so they can be properly dried and possibly reinstalled.

Mold and mildew are not good to live with.

  2. Lysol only covers only the smell, it doesn't get rid of it.

Your carpet was permanently water damaged, perhaps even the flooring.  All you can do now is remove the carpet and dry out the floor.  Mold spores are not healthy to breathe.

Check your home owners/renters insurance to see if this replacement is covered.

  3. if its a governmental problem, u should get it fixed easily if u hav insurance, if not, then u should get ur carpet replaced. its as easy as that......or u can call "Stanley Steamer's", they get ur carpet cleaner.. haha lol. well, good luck with ur carpet, hope this helped!

  4. try renting a Rug Doctor and clean the carpet yourself. There are deodorizing pruducts you can put in the tank mix,,,,and with a normal rental period of 24 hours you can do it twice.

  5. do you have wet/dry vac?it will suck out any leftover water...

you can get one at  home depot or walmart for like 20 bucks..Its great for these types of things.Hubby and I have cleaned and done this  before you need to open windows and let it dry for while sorry no ac...

another thing is when go to walmart get the powder you spread on carpet the smelly stuff theres a special one for this will kill things..get it ...helps tremendously!!

i plug in tons of air freshners and plug ins in every room.

(it gets expensive look online for some coupons for this it helps hon )

You also need fans borrow these from neighbors that are running the a/c(that maybe arent using their fans) ...put one in every room it helps to dry the carpet up!!!

takes 24 hours and the smell will diminish...

  6. Carpet need to be remove and thrown out.  Then run a fan to ciruclate the air, if you can vent it outside would be better.  Leave the fan on day and night till the smell dissipates. If you have finished walls that will be a problem too. But do the carpet first.

There are systems to remove stale air from basement. Check the link.

  7. Once you get the mildew smell its time to go.You must replace the carpet and pad. I have been there many of times i tried carpet cleaning,i used a carpet drying fan.WASTE OF MONEY! Replace carpet and pad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  8. Carpet and pad is most likely ruined... Get them up and out of the house... let the sub-floor dry out then replace the carpet as finances permit. A professional carpet layer is money well spent as you will have many years of beautiful carpet that is properly layed.
