My laptop was stolen and I have insurance. I have insurance which covers belongings like digital camera ect and my laptop insured separately to £500. do I have to prove how much I paid for it and what the spec was? I paid £330 for it including a discount so do I need to find one for a similar spec and price or just find a laptop for up to £500

  1. they will give u money depending on your deductible

  2. First and foremost you should present the original receipt. Failing that then you're going to have to show a credit card or bank statement showing purchase value if you have them. As a last resort you'll need at the very least to present the manual and a copy of the guarantee or warranty. If you have the receipt then you will only get the value of the receipt minus whatever your excess is. If you don't have the receipt then there's no way of your insurers knowing that you received a discount so you you'll get the current market value of that spec of laptop, again minus whatever your excess is. What you can't do is put in a £500 claim for a £330 laptop.

  3. can't imagine you'll get more than the current fair market value of a used machine of same model, etc.

be prepared -- that could easily be 150 pounds at most.

and if there's a deductible [as is common here in America] they take the deductible off the used fair value.

  4. Call and ask them. They know they're policy better than the general consensus.

  5. hi,  u need to call your insurance co. up & tell them about the brake in & ask them what u need to do in order to be able to get another laptop & they will tell u all u need to know & what u need to produce to them.  also u need to have called the police up so that the brake in is on police record cuz most insurance co.  won't pay unless there's a police report saying that there was a brake in.  good luck, i hope i was helpful to u!

  6. Insurance usually says to replace to the value. If your paying

insurance on £500 you would have had to list date and place of

purchase.Mine was £750 but got discount also and it's that price i'm on.
