My hp pavilion laptop has a "blue screen of death", can anyone help me fix it?

I've tried starting it with default settings and "last settings that worked", but neither worked. when i try booting it in safe mode it repeats the same line down the screen. after i try to start it with default or "last settings that worked" it starts loading windows, then freezes and gives me the blue screen. I have windows xp professional with sp2.

Some BSOD errors can be caused by a malfunctioning hard drive.

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . Just reinstall windows xp professional.

Save your documents 1st.

step 1: remove errors from registry. Find one free here/ look for VIsta certified one. http://registrycleanercompare.blogspot.c...

still don't work. then replace RAM
