I am at uni training as an odp ( which means i am qualified in all areas of theatre department) and once im qualified and have some experiance we want to move from the UK. This is mainly due to the increasing crime rate and feeling it is a very nice place to raise our children. I wanted to know about australias crime rates and were the nicests places to live

  1. First of all you have to find out if you fit the criteria to move to Australia (it's a very difficult Country to get into - which is a good thing! ) I migrated from the UK to Australia almost 7 years ago. We came on a business visa as temporary residents, completed the criteria to become permanent residents, then eventually became citizens. (had to do this even though my father-in law had fought in the Australian Army!!)

Australia (from MY experience) is a very small Country in relation to population so it can be difficult to find work in certain fields, although I'm sure it's easier in the Cities (I live regional)

There is alot of crime (as there is in every Country) and there is a HUGE drug problem here which seems worse (to me) than where I come from in London - as it is more condensed and more apparent due to the small population - (I know its a massive Country but only in size) and bringing up kids here is the same as everywhere else, crime, drugs, and the divorce and suicide rate in oz is very high (per population) especially here where I live on the Sunshine Coast

The best places to live in my opinion is coastal Queensland although it's much harder to find work here so Brisbane would be a good City. The weather is good and it's not as expensive as Sydney and Melbourne. Have a google search on the Sunshine Coast (Noosa, Mooloolaba, Coolum etc...beautiful)

It's one of the last great Countries though for still being untouched in lots of places and the people are friendly (especially in the rural towns) Most of them seem to like the Brits and the Aussies have the same sense of humour.

I think its a great place to move to depite the disadvantages I mentioned above - which you can not get away from anywhere in the World (unless you want to live on a desert Island)!

Don't use an Immigration Lawyer whatever you do - we got our visa from Australia House in London for a few pounds - whereas they wanted to charge us thousands of dollars for the same thing!

Whatever you choose to do - Good Luck.

  2. If you are in the UK see http://expo-australia.com there is an expo coming up on how to live and work in Australia.  Immigration is there to answer all questions and job offers are made right there.  Being in the health industry you won't have any problems finding a job here - nurses and theater staff are a great skilled shortage in Australia.

As for the crime - there is crime in every country, but Australia is a safe place to live.

    Good Luck !
