We are worried that the 5 small towns on the Italian Riviera might possibly be closed down in the off season. Does anyone know if that is true? Or are there still beautiful things to see and nice restaurants open?

  1. there are many more than 5 towns on the italian riviera, and since they are towns, with people living and working in them, they don't "shut down".  you could go on vacation there at any time of the year; it's not a closed resort; it's a massive long vibrant stretch of shoreline with numerous communities, large and small. have a great time!

  2. Are you referring to Cinque Terra? I don't believe they 'close down'. The only month I would worry about in Italy is August. Everyone goes on Vacations in Aug. so many resturants and small shops close in the smaller cities. Cinque Terra is kinda tourist friendly I think so I wouldn't worry.

  3. It really depends where you plan to go...San Remo has a casino and is a larger town....(you are also about 20 km from Monte Carlo.) so most hotels and restaurants are open. Smaller towns (like Santa Margarita or Portofino) have limited services but you should find hotels and restaurants open that serve the locals.

    Enjoy....

  4. I'm not sure what 5 small towns you're referring to - the Italian Riviera covers a large amount of coastline in Liguria. You may be talking about Cinque Terre - and I don't believe those are closed down during that time.  The rest of the Italian Riviera is up and running as usual at that time - in fact, I will be there then, too!  I used to live in Nervi and think it is absolutely beautiful any time of year!  If you have more specific information you're looking for, just let me know and I'll try to help!
