  1. It depends on your budget and priorities. I'm guessing that for a young family, both environment and jobs would be high priority. I personally recommend Perth as it's more laid-back and friendly. It's quite expensive in terms of property at the moment, but they do have quite a lot of residential development projects on (an example is this waterfront project in Rockingham/Mandurah: http://www.savilleaustralia.com.au/proje... ) so you will probably have a few more options if you want to buy/build a new house instead of renting.

  2. Hello,

Canberra the Nations Capital of Australia is a great place to live. We have lots to offer all year round such as festivals, big events, markets, galleries, shopping, nightlife such as clubbing, National tourist attractions such as the Australian War Memorial, National Museum of Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Old Parliament House, Lake Burley Griffin and lots of other things you can see and do while your in our great city of ours.

We have big events such as Floriade - Australia's Floral Festival which is on in spring during mid September and October each year, National Folk Festival in Easter, Royal Canberra Show in late February, Australia Day Live concert, Canberra Day on the 12th of March each year, Summernats Car Festival in early January, National Multicultral Festival in mid February.

You can go for walks or ride a bike around Lake Burley Griffin or hire paddle boats or canoes and go for a cruise on the lake. There's lots of small community events in each area of Canberra, wineries, bike riding, bush walking, skateboarding, all kinds of sports such as cricket, AFL, basketball, motorsports, camping, hang gliding, triathalon, swimming, football, and lots of other things to do.

The population of Canberra at the moment is around 325,000 residents and we are a friendly city.

  3. Congratulations on the big move to Australia. So you are torn between Perth and Sydney.

Well Sydney is our biggest city so with a big city comes lots of jobs and lots of school choices. But you kinda pay the price when it comes down to environment. It's not that great a place for kids to grow up in and has the ussuall high crime rate which most bg cities have. Sydney is also know for a great night life (for the adults not kids). Sydney's weather is mild, you get colder in the winter and hotter in the summer but no real extremes (well only occasionally due to crazy weather pattern all over the world).

Perth on the other hand is a newish and growing city. Although it's on the western side of Austrlia and you are kinda of trapped to just Perth over there. You can't just travel around to other cities ect. But it's a beatiful city and much cleaner and lower crime rate than Sydney. Still has some great job oppertunities especially with in the mining area. And even though you don't have as many schools to choose from they are newer than most of Sydneys. The environment is much better suited for family life and has many family oriented things in the city and lots of outdoor activities for kids and adults. Although the weather is pretty warm over there (which i personally love).

Hope that helps you out a little. Here are 2 of australias bggets job websites that many help with the working aspect of your question:

  4. If you don't have jobs yet, and haven't yet decided where to live, how did you manage to get your migration visas approved?  More importantly, have you actually applied to migrate?

  5. Both cities have advantages. Look at job prospects. West Australia is booming for mining and construction work they are crying for workers there. If your in commerce Sydney is great BUT the cost of living is the highest in Australia. Look at weather too as temperatures in Perth can and do get very hot . I love W.A it has a lot going for it. But I chose to live in Brisbane as it has the best of both worlds. Good luck on you move.

  6. Both are great cities. To raise a family I would recommend Perth as it is more laid back. Sydney is very busy. The people of Perth are very friendly, lovely beaches and good weather. If you need jobs in financial services then Sydney or Melbourne would be better. Melbourne is also a great place to raise a family. Its known as the most liveable city.

Hope this has helped a little

  7. Your question makes me wonder...as it seems you do not have jobs already.  Do you have work visas?  Are you aware that you cannot just "move" to Australia...and you cannot visit there for more than 90 days...unless you have applied for immigration.    I just want to be sure you know you need visas and have the correct info.  See site below for the info.
