He is a US permanent resident vith a valid green card BUT an expired Philippine passport (his country of origin).

I know that a valid passport is required to enter mexico, but the renewal of Philippine passports takes SIX WEEKS at this time because they are converting them to MRPs.

We are booked to leave in two weeks so my questions are:

1. Are we completely out of luck and should just cancel the whole trip?

2. Or can we still get a travel document in this short span of time? (If so, where do we get this "travel document"? this is what Mexicana airlines told me when I called them about our problem).

  1. True, you must have  a valid passport to enter Mexico. First, concern yourself with re-entry into the USA, will you have any problems ?, find out.

Next, if you're on a charter flight, and have a valid drivers license with a foto, and you're carrying a "green card", and if you can get on the charter flight, then , when you reach 'immigracion' and IF they ask tell them the truth. DO NOT offer a bribe.  They will not turn you back.

  2. It is unfortunate but you are indeed 'screwed', and if you are flying you need a valid passport to re-enter the US.

  3. Has he applied for a new passport?

Call the Philippine embassy closest to you and ask what is available from them. If that does not work, go to the nearest INS (or whatever they are nowadays) and ask if they have something.

I don't mean to be mean but it is getting close....why did you start checking into it so late?

    hope yall make the trip

ps-below is link for one of the embassies in DC. They have more in other states and consulates in others. Mabuhay.
