  1. Mazatlan has some of the most spectacular sunsets you'll find.  It's inexpensive and, from my experiences there, pretty safe.  One can ride the public buses, which are very cheap and run frequently, to many places.  The Mazatlan Antiguo (or Old Mazatlan) is a must see.  It is very colonial and comparable to the Old San Juan in Puerto Rico in that it has undergone a tremendous and tasteful restoration.  Many americans are buying property there since it's inexpensive. I'd recommend renting a car and driving to the surrounding small towns that exhibit a lot of character and where very few tourists go.  From there, it's also fairly easy to get to Puerto Vallarta.  Enjoy!

  2. Mazatlan has long been known to be the most affordable location on the "Mexican Rivera". While prices here have gone up, they have gone up everywhere in the world. So it is still an affordable vacation. Even in the Hotel Zone, you can have a nice diner for around $10 US. It is very safe. You can walk the zone all day and night. Even Old Town is safe. Make sure early in your visit to come to Plaza Machado in Old Town. It is stunning and an expensive diner will be under $20 each. Many great meals under $10. And LOTS of choices.

  3. I don't think you have anything to worry about.Matzatlan is a great destination.I love Matzalan and have been there at least a dozen times and never had any trouble. The worst thing about Matzatlan, and many other beach destinations in Mexico, is the the time share salespeople, avoid them and you should have a memorable experience.

    Buen Viaje!
