Question:

My husband and I are interested in adopting from Ethiopia? Do you have to wait until your youngest child is 2?

It seems that you have to wait until your youngest child is 2 y/o. Is this true? If so, can we start the process when he is 1 1/2 years old in the hopes that he will be 2 years old when we bring the other child home. He is 9 months old right now. My husband and his brother are 2 years apart and are very close. His 2 sisters were 1 1/2 years apart and they were very close too. I want my children to be the a same way so I was hoping we might be able to adopt another child around the time our son was 2 years old. Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. No. We just adopted from Ethiopia, your youngest has to be one year old.  The wait for a newborn is a little over a year.  Our daughter is almost 2 and it was a 5 month wait.  Again there has to be at least a one year gap between your youngest and the new child.  Good Luck to you and happy to help.  It was a life changing experience and our daughter is amazing!

Our first daughter was adopted domestically.  I do suggest to give it a try.  We waited four years to adopt our second African American child and all we had was three adoptions fall through and broken hearts. Our oldest daughter really wanted someone to look like her in her family.  We couldn't end our family on such a negative note so we went to a place where the children are parentless and truly need a family.

    * people with larger families rarley get picked by birthmothers. (we had four children)  GL

  2. Are your husband and his siblings adoptees from various countries?

It seems you and he are making a big assumption about how your adopted child is going to blend into your family. How much have you studied about the issues faced by adoptees?

  3. Normally theprocedures of 6 months or so one cnclear.let the child be grown up to sat 2 1/2  years , plan to bring by 3 year

THERE WILL BE A STABILITY CAN BE ACHIEVED

  5. I didn't know Ethiopia had an international adoption program, could be wrong though

There are plenty of deserving African American kids awaiting a good home right on your doorstep, though.  Give them a chance.  Did you know the USA  is actually exporting them for adoption in other countries, because people are overlooking them in favour of adopting caucasian kids or even going abroad, like you propose to do - it's so sad

  6. I really don't know.  Call an international adoption agency.  They should be able to answer all of your questions.  Good luck.
