He is set on naming our daughter Emily ( which I hate because of the commonality of it) I dont like it no matter how you spell it. I told him we could compromise by naming her that but calling her a different name. I cant come up with anything that flows well with emily as a middle name. any suggestions? I dont have a fav name of my own I just know I dont want that one!

  1. you could go with emilia (pronounced like Amelia but spelled so that your husband has the emily effect in there)....or make emily the middle name if he is set on that name for whatever reason...like:

    brealyn emily

    brynn emilia

    cadence emilia

    addison emily

    carolynn emily

    claire emilia

    gracelynn emily

    jordynn emilia

    kaelynn emily

    kadence emilia

    katelynn emilia

    Emilia lynn

    Emilia kate***

    Emilia grace

  2. That's a tough call...Good Luck with it! I know how it can be when a husband is set on something. Here are some  suggestions...

    Emily DaNae

    Cassandra Emily (Cassi for short)

Emily Sophia or Sophia Emily (Sophie for short)

    Brooklyn Emily

    Emily Nicole

    Kaelyn Emily

  3. Sienna Emily

    Adeline Emily

    Madeleine Emily

    Caroline Emily

And honestly, I agree with you, it's too common. What about something like Emma, or Emilianne or Amelia (Emilia). Some are less common than Emily.

    Emilia Kate

    Emilianne Caroline

  4. Madalyn Emily

    Savannah Emily(my fav.)

    Kaylee Emily

    Sierra Emily

*It all depends on your last name.

  5. I agree with using an alternative like Amelia, Amélie or Emilia.

If you don't like those either, buy a name book and figure out what you like, so that you'll have some alternatives when your husband suggests Emily again.

    Good ones:

    http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Jennifer-Ja...

    http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Name-Wizard-M...

and http://www.nymbler.com (website which generates name lists based on your favorites)

  6. Emeila Mae (Mae or May)

Augustine May (Emily just sounds similar to May. Also, Augustine is considered a boy's name, but I think it's lovely.)

    Emmy Jane

I agree with Emily not being a very..."good" name. It doesn't click to me, and I wouldn't name my child that, whatever my husband wanted. You are the mother. Mothers are the ones that bear more work, so you should be able to pick a name that you'd LOVE calling out everyday.

  7. I really don't know what your style is, so it's hard to suggest something. www.behindthename.com has a huge, huge list of names and they're the most accurate website when it comes to origin and meaning of the names. They also have message boards where you can ask opinions.

  8. If you don't like Emily, maybe Emma or Emmy or Amelia or Emelie (pronounce E-meal-E)? I really like Emmy.

  9. You should go to a baby name website or get a book and look through names so you get an idea for what you like. Make a list and talk it over with him. Say the name out loud with Emily as a middle name to see what works.

  10. I like

    Leah Emily

    Taliah Emily

    Gionnia Emily (pronunced Ge-on-ee-a)

    Takeira Emily (pronunced Ta-keir-a)

    Hannah Emily

and last but not least Emileena Katlyn

those are some names i like i hope i helped

    god bless your baby girl

  11. Emileigh is a different spelling that makes it more unusual

    Other suggestions:

    Emmalyn

    Erelah

    Erin

    Elianna

    Middle names

    Grace

    Faith

    Lynn

    Rose

    Mariah

    Brielle

    Brynn

    Andrea

    Sophia

    Frances

    Gwendolyn

  12. I like Clara.

  13. I agree with you - Emily is way too common (in fact, it's been the most popular girls name in the United States since 1996).

Instead of Emily, maybe you and your husband could compromise on a name that sounds similar, like Emmeline, Amelie, Amelia, or Aemilia?

Or if you still want to name her Emily but call her by her middle name, here are a few combo suggestions:

    Emily Charlotte

    Emily Juliet

    Emily Violet

    Emily Willow

    Emily Rose/Emily Roselle

    Emily Georgia/Emily Georgiana

    Emily Claire

    Emily Carina/Emily Karina

    Emily Scarlett

    Emily Josephine

    Emily Delphine

    Emily Celeste

    Emily Viviana

    Emily Renee/Emily Renae

Hope you and your husband are able to work something out!

  14. I am in the same boat-my husband wants a Michael Jr, I say NO WAY!

I myself will not let him win on this one, I said we can use it for a middle name. I cannot say I have any suggestions for name that goes with Emily, but keep trying! I don't think you should give in:)

  15. How about Amelia? That is close to Emily and little more unusual?

If not, Emily Elizabeth is nice and there are a lot of nick names for Elizabeth.

  16. yeah i dont like emily either. it is very common. have you thought of Emma or Emmy?

    i can think of

    Emily Autumn

    Emily Lucy

    Emily Faith

    Emily Hope

    Emily Lynn

    Emily Ann

    Emily Paige

    Emily Cicely

  17. You're right.  Emily is the name of the year, right up there with Isabella & Madeline.

I'd really like to see both parents agree on a name (though Dad doesn't seem flexible AT ALL), but if not, the law stipulates the the mother is the parent who supplies the newborn's name.

    TX Mom

  18. How bout  Emily Brooke

  19. yea i agree with you i dont like the name emily. my friends name is emily and she hates it to.

    i like the names

    Danielle

    Nina

    Caylee

    FrancescaKa

    Jordan

    Ria

    Lea

    Louila

    Karina

i think Lea Emily sounds okay.

    jordan emily is cute to.

    goood luck!

    dont name her emily! lol

  20. i don't like emily either! maybe try emmeline, or EmmaLee?

if you do the first name as emily, i think elizabeth would be an adorable middle name! (emily elizabeth is the little girl from Clifford, i think!)

  21. Well, you're going through the labor and delivery, so I think you should have a little more say in this, haha! He can't be "set" on naming her that -- that's not fair to you. This is YOUR daughter, too! Maybe the only one you will ever have. Don't saddle her w/ a name you can't stand. Tell him that he has to put Emily aside and find a name you BOTH can agree on..... there are THOUSANDS of names... there must be SOMETHING out there you can both live with. I agree with you.... there will be 16 other Emily's in her kindergarten class! It's a VERY popular name right now. Maybe Evelyn? (at least it starts w/ an "E" :-) or Amelia? (Sounds kind of similar) Elizabeth? Isabel? Isabella?? Erica? Ava?

If it must be Emily then I guess middle names could be...

    Emily Eve

    Emily Elle

    Emily Ann

    Emily Lynn

Emily Monet (as in Monet the Artist)

    Emily Marie

But I really, REALLY don't think you should go with Emily if you hate the name. A name is the first gift you give your baby.... don't give one that you're not happy with :-) She'll have it for the rest of her life!

    Good luck! :-)

  22. This is a tough situation!  While Emily is pretty (it's my name, after all), it's extremely common.  We definitely don't need to add any more Emily's to the bunch.  I applaud you for wanting to find another less common name.  Here are your options, as far as I see them:

-- Tell your husband you absolutely will not name your daughter Emily.  (You are her mother, so this is your prerogative.  Likewise, if your husband hated the name you picked out, you would need to find another.)  Since you don't have any other favorite names you like, compromise by letting him select five OTHER names he loves and letting you decide between those five other names.

-- Use a name that is related to Emily, either in the first or middle position.  Suggestions: Amelie, Amelia, Emilia, or Emmeline.  Amelia and Emilia make GREAT middle names rhythmically, so you might have an easier time using those than using Emily.

-- Use a name with a similar rhythm and similar ending sound to Emily.  Among my favorites are Elodie, Rosalie, Cecily, Coralie, and Melody.

-- Use Emily as your daughter's first name, but call her by her middle name.  (Rhythmically, it's easier to use Emily in the first position.)  Emily Faith can go by Faith, Emily Miranda can go by Miranda, Emily Victoria can go by Victoria, and so on.

-- Search long and hard until you find a first name you like that sounds good with Emily and with your last name.  It's tough, since Emily is stressed on the first syllable, but there ARE names that sound good with it.  My favorite options are the two-syllable names that end in a consonant.  I like Catherine Emily, Charlotte Emily, Morgan Emily, Margaret Emily, and Regan Emily, for example.  I answered this same question for you a while back with a long list of suggestions.  Here's the link to those:

Good luck, and I hope this helps!

  23. how about you come up w/ a 1st name and he comes up for a middle name :)

  24. You could come to a compromise by using the name Emmeline. Emmeline sounds similar to Emily, but has none of Emily's popularity. In fact, the name Emmeline isn't even popular enough to be in the top 1000 names. Emmeline is a very sophisticated, beautiful girls name with historical associations (e.g. feminist Emmeline Pankhurst). You can also use the common nicknames for Emily like Emm, Emmy and Emma. Additionally, you could use the nickname Lena (since Emmeline is pronounced EM-ə-leen. However, if you don't like that pronunciation I'm sure you could get away with saying the name as EM-ə-line).

For girls my favourite names are Rosalie, Hazel, Audrey, Ivy, Alice and Lucy. Rosalie has the same sort of sound as the name Emily (same amount of syllables, stresses on the same syllables), but it's not nearly as popular. Perhaps your husband will like Rosalie? It's a beautiful French girls name  that is currently not in the top 1000 names, except in Quebec, Scotland, South Australia and Belgium.

To find some names that you like, you should really check out Nymbler. Nymbler is an internet resource that suggests names according to your own personal preferences. Personally, I quite like the names Jane Emily, Catherine Emily, Charlotte Emily (a very Bronte name), Katherine Emily and Hannah Emily.

  25. i found some names that go pretty good with Emily but i like the spelling of Emily better these ways:

    Emileigh

    Emilee

    Emmaleigh

    Emmalee

    (they are different and uniquw)

    Here are some middle names that gor pretty good with the name;

    Isabella

    Grace

    Mia

    Paisley

    Faith

Oh and maybe if your husband really loves that name and you hate it you could go with EMMA.

Good luck deciding and good luck with your baby girl.

  29. If you don't like the name, why use it? Emilia's cute. You could call her Mia, and it still looks like Emily. Emile (em-eel) and Emma are also nice. I also agree that Emily is too common, BUT it is a very nice name in my opinion. However, you really shouldn't have to use a name you hate for your child! Try compromising by using Emily as the middle name. Here are some suggestions of names that aren't too common or too out there.

    Avery

    Quinn

    Morgan

    Corin/Corinne (core-in or kerr-in)

    Marina

    Melina

    Good luck! I hope I helped! :-)
