She will be 1 on July 31st, and her hair is still not showing any sign of having curls. Has anyone had children that started out with straight hair and it got curly later on, or will our daughter have straight hair for some reason?

  1. My parents both have perfectly straight hair but mine became very curly when I was about 17 or so.  My son had straight hair for a few weeks but now it is crazy curls.  You never know, some genes don't show up.

  2. both of my parents have straight hair and i had straight hair until i was around the age of 8. genes are weird sometimes. your daughter could end up with curly hair or she could end up having straight hair.

  3. My daughter had slow growing straight hair until she was 2.  Now she is 4 and we call her curly Sue, her hair is a mass of curls.

  4. I have naturally curly/wavy hair.  My husband does not.  Our daughter is just over 2 years old & is just now starting to get my wavy hair.  It took a while.

It really could go either way, as someone else said.

  5. Ohh ! Both my parents have really curly hair (those insane hard-to-wash ringlets) and my hair didn't start going curly until I started school. Now its just like *PWOW!* curly :P

  6. I had straight hair until I was 12 - then all of a sudden it went curly.  My grandma's hair did the same thing.  You just never can tell...

  7. Still could go either way.  Hair genetics are neither simple nor straighforward.  My little boys all have curly hair until their first haircut then it is forever straight.  You never can tell.  One of life's little surprises.

  8. yes some children start out with straight hair and it gets curlier later on. Or some children get their grandparents hair or eyes or any other genetic features.

  9. curly hair is a dominant gene so you would think your daughter would have curly hair too, but if you and your husband are heterozygous for the trait, even though you and your husband both have curly hair, your daughter might have inherited genes for straight hair

long way of saying.. yeah, she might have straight hair.

  10. Hair can change quite a bit.  My son had super blonde hair until he was 3.  Now is is 11 and has very dark brown hair.  My own hair was straight as straight can be until I was 30 - and had my first child.  Now I have wavy hair!

  11. That is the power of genetic traits.  Maybe she will, maybe she won't.  Time will tell, of course.

  12. Both my husband and I have brown hair, mine is dark, his is light, and our twins were born with bleach blonde hair. I'm assuming it will change colors as they get older, just as your daughters will probably get curly when she gets older. If not, maybe she just got the gene that doesn't have curly hair.

  13. she's only a year old. She may have it when she gets older but not necessarily. Depends on her genes.

  14. "My husband and I have natural curly hair, why doesnt our 1 year old?"  Because genetics goes further than just the parents, there is someone in the families who has straight hair.  could be an aunt/uncle/grandmother/grandfather etc.

  15. she will probly have curls when shes older
