We are in our 30's and usually enjoy "trendy" neighborhoods with restaurants and bars. He would be working in Wayzata, I would love some suggestions of where we should look for a home in the $250k to $400k range.

  1. I'm looking at moving, too, but I'll be renting instead of buying!

One place that's seemed really cool to me is the area south of the city off of Hennepin avenue (to the west).  It's between Hennepin and the Lake Calhoun/Lake Harriett area and seems to be close to local restaurants and shops and have some really cute, affordable houses.  I think probably the closer you are to the downtown area, the trendier it might be; the further out, the more suburban it gets.

That's just my $0.02 after having visited friends in the area and done some online searching for a place myself.

    Good luck!

  2. In advance, welcome to Minneapolis!

With the price of gas, I would pick any neighborhood from Wayzata to Uptown Minneapolis. That would include (even) St. Louis Park, or even Hopkins--my favorite small town flavor just minutes from Minneapolis.

With real estate markets here in town depressed, you could get a good deal. The other option is renting and getting a feel of the cities before you buy.

The first 3 links are photos of the Minneapolis area--the 2nd and 3rd link actually my favorite places.

The 4th link is a real estate search. For a search but in the zip codes: 55410 (Linden Hills area & Lake Harriet), 55416 (St Louis Park & parts of Golden Valley), 55424 (Edina).

5th link is a NEW condo building just to the west of Lake Calhoun.

6th link is the link through Craigslist looking for places (both for rent and for sale) in the Linden Hills area.

The next link is used to find cheap gasoline...good to know!

The last link is from the city of Minneapolis for each of the neighborhoods---look at the left side and click on the neighborhoods and a map where they can be located.

    Hope this helps!
