  1. www.adoptablekids.com has a ton of information.  Dave Thomas set up an adoption foundation that gives grants & stuff.  Bush also has a tax credit for $10,000 if you adopt a child....at least it's a reimbursement.

The foster care system is a faster way to adopt a child, you might want to consider that.

  2. Theres so much u need to know about children!!

Make sure u have a secure bank balance for a start. If u really want this to work u dont want no have money problems as u want to do your best to support your new child. Not saying that all they want is money, but it helps... Alot!!!

Once u have your adopted child you need alot of love and family time.  Some families have a lack of time together and thats where it goes rong. But always listen to them, if they want space, give it to them!! In moderation tho!!

  3. Normal adoption cost between 15,000 and can be as much as 50,000. It depends on where you want to adopt from. You can contact you local Social Services Department and have a home study done.  You have to have about once a year until the adoption is final.

  4. There are a ton of answers.  You have to decide first what route best fits your family.  Ethnicity?  How much money do you want to spend?  Age?  etc.  Read, read, read!  The net is the best place to start.  International adoption tends to be spendy (10,000 to 35,000 dep. on country) and takes a while (avg a year) but is very predictable.  Private is the most expensive but results in a newborn and you have to wait until a mom picks you.  Foster care/adoption through the state or non-profit agency costs little or no money and tends to be fast but some people have a hard time if the child is not legally free.  Hope this helps and good luck!

  5. We spent about 30K and it took us 16 months.  I had a friend who spent 40K and it took them 3 months.  Many birthmothers pick the adoptive parents by reviewing profiles (Adoption resumes).  A lot is left up to how connected they feel to you.  It really does range widely.  Typically if you are looking for a Caucasian baby, it will take longer and more money...unfortunate, but the way it is.  The first step is to get a homestudy started.  Then you can work on finding an agency to work with.  Good Luck...totally worth it!

  6. You  have so much to learn, so get ready, and start that journal!  My suggestion to you is to contact a local, reputable adoption agency that specializes in domestic and international adoption.  They will walk you through "every step of the process".  You will attend prelim meetings where you will begin to form your adoption criteria, meaning, domestic/international, race, gender, etc., etc. From there, you will need to complete a home study. The home study can take up to three months, Criminal backround checks, full physicals, financial history, social worker visits, etc., etc., Once that is completed and you are approved, you become what is considered a "Waiting Parent"....During this time, you will need to give up control, and muster up every ounce of patience in your body! It is frustrating at times and an emotional rollercoaster!  As far as the money, most agency workers will tell you it is based on "your" dual income, a scale, so that lower income families can adopt as well.  My agency fees range from $5000-$15,000 and up depending on your "criteria", mentioned earlier in this response. While domestic adoption has received a bad rap for LONG waiting periods, I can tell you that there are more short term success stories than people know about. My husband and I began our research in late 2005, our homestudy was completed in April 2006, and renewed in April 2007, we brought home our 3 1/2 week old baby girl at the end of May 2007, so really, only a  year based on when we were actually approved.

The right baby will come to you. Start reading now! Go to the library or a book store and read read read! Good Luck!

  7. i am having a boy...i am only 14 weeks and they saw aittle p***s i am thinking of putting it up for adoption...

  8. Horray for you!  I love hearing about people who really want to be parents by any means possible!  Go for it.  You'll be great at it.  Don't get discouraged either.  The waiting game is the toughest!
