  1. no job in 17 years?

  2. I don't know where your friend is coming from, but ss benefits are not put into some fund for somebody to come collect when they are good and ready. If they are not collected in a timely manner, you lose them. Exactly how that happens, I'm not sure and don't have the time to look up. You, obviously have access to the internet so do some research. Better yet, call your local ss agency and ask. It seems a little strange that you would wait a whopping 17 years to check this out.

  3. It depends on how old the two of you were when he died.  There are many widows (senior citizens) who claim their deceased spouse's SS.

The laws are always changing.  Talk to the Social Security office in your town.

  4. You might be able to if he was qualified.  It also depends on your age and if you remarried or not and when.  Good Luck.

  5. I believe you have right to his ss benefits if you were married when he died.  Why don't you just call and find out or look on the web.

  6. I'm not sure being as though it was so long ago, but maybe. contact your local s.s.a. office and consult this issue with them, they could definately tell you.

  7. you can't get it until your 62 or you have kids under 18 living in your home

  8. I am not sure why you would not be able to.  He was your husband right?

  9. That depends.  It depends on things like how long you were married to him, and your age.  I've checked into it a little.  I know that if you were married to him for ten years, and are 60 years old, you can get half of the money that he would have been entitled to when he became eligible to draw Social Security for himself.  If you were divorced from him, you would have to wait until you are 62 to start getting a monthly check, and you would still have to have been married to him for at least ten years.

I know that people are going to jump on the fact that I said 60, but it's true.  A WIDOW can get a monthly check from the government at the age of 60 with the ten year marriage stipulation.

The best thing you can do for yourself, is get in contact with the Social Security office and ask them your questions.  You will get the true facts by asking them.  You can even check their website for your answers.
