My husband does't want to give our daughter tylenol when she's teething

He and I both don't like traditional medications and tend to steer clear of them. our daughter is 19 months old and has about 5 teeth coming in at once and has been in severe pain with a fever the last 2 days. last night she woke up burning up and shaking and my first thought was to give her tylenol, but hubby said no. this morning he tells me that if we give her tylenol when she has a fever then it will 'r****d her immune system'. i told him that i don't think we should give it to her all the time, but sometimes if she is in severe pain then i don't see the problem. he NEVER wants her to have it, although he will take it himself sometimes when he has a headache and he said that if she was just in pain with no fever then he would give it to her. what do you think?

  1. If he refuses to give her some tylenol then you could try other things like the ice ring to numb her gums, a kind of cold bath to take down the temperature, you could try herbs that are safe for babies check out the link

  2. Well if he's horribly against it, there are other things you can do to ease her teething, for example ice rings to chew on that will numb her gums.  But they make tylenol for children for a reason!  If she has a fever, which is very high, it would be safer for her if you tried to get her fever down.

But essentially, it's an issue that you need to deal with with your husband.  It won't be helpful in future if the two of you can't resolve your differences on child raising.

  3. you are the childs parent aswel if you feel that giving her the tylenol will help then do so, its not like your saying give her it every day just because she is in extreme pain .next time he is in pain let him suffer he wouldnt like it and i can imagine it beeing a hundred times worse for a little girl.

Hope shes feeling better soon xx

  4. If your daughter has a high fever then you should get it down with lukewarm baths and lots of fluids and if the fever is not coming down then take her to a naturopath or a pediatrician. Even though your daughter is teething this may not be what is causing the problem. Many times young children also get various bacterial or viral infections at the same time when teeth are coming in.

A low grade fever is not dangerous as it is the body's way of killing germs [they don't thrive in heat] but a high fever is counterproductive. A fever of 101 or less is a low grade fever.

By the way, there is less reason for your husband to take tylenol for a headache than there is to give it to your child for a fever. There are many more effective things to take for a headache.
