Have you had another bypass and how long was it before you had another one? Please tell me good or bad things you have experienced with your bypass.

  1. 3 years ago i had quade heart bypass 3 months i had a stroke because they didn;t put me onblood thinners now i not able to work anymore

  2. The bypass grafts generally last 7-15 years on average, though the range can be wide.  It depends on a lot of factors including whether they used arteries or veins for the bypass grafts, technical factors such as suturing and how much blockage there was in the native vessels beyond the bypass, as well as genetic factors.  Having seen many people get bypass surgery, I have to say that most people do quite well.

  3. I have not had bypass surgery but my father did. It is possible that your husband may never need another bypass. A lot depends on his lifestyle after the surgery. Many people just go back t eating as they did before the surgery and the arteries simply narrow or clog again.

One thing that may surprise you is that the pain may not necessarily disappear. It did not in my father's case. He also developed scarring, which lead to more pain.

  4. HI....My dad had a triple by-pass in December.  He was doing fine until around March when he stopped making progress in his recovery.  Then some time in May (ish) or so he started taking on a huge amount of fluid especially in his stomach.  His doctor was not doing much and then he saw another doctor 3 weeks ago and they discovered he had an ascending aortic dissection and an aneurysm  He had 12 hours of emergency surgery and did not wake up until 9 days after the surgery.  His surgeon said he should never have made it as long as he did.  They took 2 1/2 gallons of fluid out of his stomach!  The moral of this story is PLEASE make sure you are pro active for your husband.  Make sure his doctor is actually doing something for your husband.  He should see his cardiologist at least 4 times a year.  Insist on an ecocardiogram if he is having problems.  IF YOU DO NOT LIKE HIS DOCTOR AND HAVE A BAD FEELING ABOUT HIM THEN CHANGE DOCTORS!

Thanks to Dr. Morris at Mercy General in Sacramento my dad is going to be fine.

I wish your husband years of good health and happiness (as well as you too)
