We currently live in Sydney ,he has been offered twice the money he is earning at present on a contract basis and all accomodation plus food on a 6 day on 7 day off roster with his fares fully paid to come home in between ,it really seems too good to be true ,can anybody enlighten us to the negatives they have experienced or know of.

  1. My husband has worked in a couple of mines in western and central QLD.  The hardest thing is not having him home every night.  You do get used to it though.  If it's just you and your husband (no kids) definitely give it a go.  We have a almost 6 month old and it's hard though not nearly as hard as I expected.

Another thing to think about is how long term.  Months or years.  I find it easier knowing that my husband won't be doing this for ever and it's just to give us a good chance with living costs etc.

In the end it would be worth a go.  If it doesn't work then consider what next.

  2. Probably shift work on call 24 on for 6 days. & sleap between required peaks = 16on8off.   I would advise checking through "E" with mine personal office to clarify. Probly a move to Fremantle required to make it Permanent position, Please dont guess on this one you seam to be both kean on this,  Some companies also have accomidation as well as jobs available for a couple, Check all the ins & outs Through Personal if they are a good company the fact that you are checking is very reasuring to the company & in most cases ends to your benifit for you both.   jockcn

  3. If you think your marriage can cope with the 6 days on 7 days at home, then go for it. Some people would hate it, many wouldn't have a problem. I haven't experienced it but have friends who worked like that for years. The woman needs to be a fairly independent sort of person and the husband needs to be fairly easy going and to understand that he can't expect her to be the sole manager one week and then be a doormat when he is home. It's more difficult if you have kids. Is there any chance that you could go up there too? It's often impossible because of the accomodation on site, but it's worth investigating.
