My husband has orders to Wheeler in Hawaii-Can I go to?

My husband has the order on his AKO account that he's going to Wheeler in Hawaii. I have heard that because he's an E-2, even if we are married, the tour is unaccompanied. That came from a retired person who hasn't been in the Army for 30+ years. Is that true?

  1. As far as I know, you should not have to pay for your own plane ticket. If you do, you should get reimbursed...

  2. Is it a 3 year tour. I have heard of the military not moving if station is one year or less. You might have to go forward and look for residence. It is not a forward area so you are allowed to go. But they may not pay for your plane ticket or lodging. He should be able to live off base.  Unless it is his first station.

  3. If you are married and he is going to be there for more than 20 weeks you are allowed to go with him. Once his final orders go through thats when the army pays for it . If you bought your own plane ticket they will pay you back once you get moved downed there and check in with the housing office and fill all you paperwork out. Just make sure that you keep the receipt so you have proof. Anytime that you are assigned to a duty station the army pays to move you. Good Luck!!

  4. It is likely it is accompanied so yes you can go.  You may need to pay for your flight but would likely get reimbursed for the plane ticket.  If he has questions about whether it is accompanied or unaccompanied he can always ask his chain of command.  They will be able to answer him better than the rest of us.

  5. Hawaii is a state. It's like order to California or Florida. Of course you can go. You just have to pay for your own airplane ticket.

  6. What do his orders say?  How long is the assignment?

  7. Of course, you're going.  It's a great duty station.

If he's got PCS Orders your expenses will be covered.

  8. only if his orders read accompanied..and yes, this counts as OCONUS so there is a possibility they will be Unaccompanied.

  9. Never mind you! Can I go?

  10. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON HIS ORDERS!!!!!

It is your/his responsibility to get YOU added to his orders.  He will get orders to Hawaii, you need to do the paperwork and have medical screening to make you eligible to be added to his orders.  Yes you can go.  Don't worry, all will be paid for.  Just be a thorn in his side until your name is officially on his orders.  Have fun, I was there for 5 years.
