My husband is a bit older than I and I have not had children yet?

He had a vasectomy when he was married to his first wife and now we have to make a decision.

Do we have the vasectomy reversal and then wait 6 months for the sperm to generate... and then have one child at a time?

Or for the exact same price of $6500...

Should we have the doctors forget about the vasectomy, due to time constraints (being that he is 50 and has early onset Parkinsons) and have them take his sperm and my eggs and implant the children we want? Twins boy and girl? (Yes I spoke with doctors and you can choose the s*x and # of children you want)....

what would you do? what do you think?

I am 29.

  1. I think you should find someone a lot more younger, perhaps around your age, who is capable of producing sperm naturally and without future oncoming problems. When you're 40, he's going to be John McCain's age. Think you have problems now?

  2. Forget the advice on picking a father. The only "love rule" is there are no rules for love! As to getting preg., I think I'd follow my doctor's advice on that one.

  3. Since there is a chance that the vasectomy reversal wouldn't work, I would go for the implanting.

  4. I would go with the implant,  You never know if the  reverse vasectomy will work and with his age and the pressure of performing might cause problems with your s*x life that can snowball.  If money is no object the implant would be the way I would go. Good luck

  5. i'd go with the test tube baby.  why not??  and btw 29 and 50???? gross. i hope he's got mad money yo.

  6. You can't pick how many children implant and grow to term.  You can only choose how many fertilized eggs they put into your womb.  Many women empty their bank accounts and never end up with any children even after many attempts at IVF.  And gender selection costs more.  The medications cost a ton.  Insurance does not cover costs associated with voluntary infertility (such as a vasectomy) so the costs would be closer to $15,000 for one attempt with no guarantee that a baby would form.

Because of that I would go with a reversal.  Although they are not always successful either.  Sometimes a man's sperm never recovers.

  7. Well deary I can't say I would choose to have the children. Is sounds all very complicated & very expensive. Plus, your husband is experiencing a disease that is very difficult physically & emotionally for the whole family involved. If you do indeed get pregnant how are you going to handle taking care of 'twins' if thats what you want, and making sure your husband takes his medication.. it could progress to much worse. What if he needs lots of care? He might not be able to help you care for these children at all in about 5-10 years. It's a lot to think about. So just make sure you cover all these bases before rushing into anything. Good Luck.

  8. The reversal chances of working  are slim. i personally would not have a child with someone who is ill and so old.  It is not fair to the children.
