  1. You are going to want him to go before you. So as for him to not have any distractions. His unit will allow him the time necessary to find a house (weather on post or off post) And he also needs the time to do all of his in processing paperwork. You know how long the army takes on anything... Plus I'm from Texas and Ft. Bliss is one place you would not want to be if you didn't have to be. It is boring and a desert town. Have a great time.

It is the opposite of blissful there

  2. Remember, a duty station is what you make of it.  Personally I could find plenty to do in El Paso and the surrounding area but I guess not everyone is that talented.

As for when to move I'd choose to go with him.  DH and I have done it both ways and for us the least stressful moves have been the ones where we were both there working on the moving process.  But then we plan to have some of his leave time left over when we get to a new place to find a house and get our stuff moved in.  If you cut your time down to the wire so that he checks in the day you arrive in the new town you may be doing all the house hunting alone.  If his command needs him to go to work right away then he may not get time to house hunt.  Add in that he won't have a place to live and as he's married they may not have space for him in the barracks.  And if they do he may have to pay for them or loose BAH for that room.
